I’ve developed Perfect Pitch!

MaximI can say with certainty that at the time you emailed me, I could already identify each of the white notes of the octave beginning on middle C.

Now, I can almost instantly identify all the white notes and three of the black notes (C-sharp, G-sharp and A-sharp) in five different octaves! I can identify them on other instruments, too, including guitar, violin, trumpet, accordion and others, not just the piano.

Identifying the notes really doesn’t have anything to do with the timbre. I can also recognize notes when they are sung, and can sing in tune myself.

I myself hardly believe that I’ve accomplished this. After I learned the middle C octave on the piano using your method, I started to work on recognizing those same notes on guitar and violin. At first, it was really difficult to recognize notes on guitar, and I wanted to quit. But I didn’t let myself, and continued-and it paid off! With the violin, it was MUCH easier (I’m just talking about the notes of the middle C octave here), and after that it was like a miracle. First of all, an unfamiliar timbre stopped being an obstacle for recognizing notes, and second of all, my ability to recognize notes sped up significantly. The most important thing was that from that moment I began to recognize the notes of other octaves without special preparation, without concentrating on the note and its image…it just happened automatically. I’d hear some note, G5 for example, and I’d be certain right away that the note was indeed G5. Each note has its own particular character for me, and it’s impossible to confuse it with another note, just like it’s impossible to confuse the colors yellow and blue. Another interesting fact: it’s easier for me to just determine the note itself instead of which octave it belongs to.

I plan to finish learning the two remaining notes that I’m not completely solid on, E-flat and F-sharp, and also I plan to speed up my ability to recognize the notes, which I think is very important.

I’ve started to hear and pick out music by ear a lot better.

I’ve only just begun to study music, although I’ve always wanted to. About a year ago I started playing percussion. Then I got bored with it. In May, I started singing, in the summer I started teaching myself the pennywhistle, in September I found someone to teach me to play recorder. Now I am pursuing both these instruments. I’ve always had a good ear: I could always pick out a melody by ear, but I would often make mistakes.

After training, a lot of things changed. I can pick out melodies by ear better, I rarely make mistakes anymore. But I didn’t complete the training, so I didn’t get all the results I wanted. I’m planning to start it up again when I find the time.

I’ve started to hear and pick out music a lot better. Actually, along with the training I would do my own ear training practice: I’d try to play simple melodies in my head, using my mental flute! I didn’t know the notes yet, I was doing it by ear. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it really does help. I learned some of the notes thanks to these melodies, but that was using relative pitch…

I recognize the first notes of my favorite melodies right away. It’s easier to play now. I’ve realized that music requires a lot more thinking than I expected!

Notes have faces and characters now, and this is after only a week of training!

I’ve played the guitar for about six years, and recently I’ve started singing. I like all sorts of other instruments. I’ve always wanted to develop my musical ear. Thankfully I found the way to do it!

Before the training, I would distinguish the notes in relation to each other. Memorization of individual notes was unrealistic. Now notes have faces and characters and I can identify them fairly confidently. This is after only a week of training! I’m enjoying the process and am confident in my progress because it is very clear to me now how I can develop perfect pitch. I liked the atmosphere, the games at training sessions, the thoughtful steps and how it all makes sense.

I loved to start getting results beginning with the very first training session!

When I was young I played a bit of guitar, but I could never pick out music by ear. After the training I started to differentiate between the sounds, pick out the emotional differences between notes. At the trainings, I enjoyed the active working atmosphere and the unique approach to musical ear training. I liked the fact that results were apparent even after the very first lesson. You get clear guidelines for practicing on your own, as well.

I also liked the respect that the teacher gave the students. The thing I would improve is the discipline within the groups, the group work could have been more organized.

Irina Borisovna, age 54, Moscow, Russia

For the first time in my life I started to hear and understand notes consciously.

I only listen to music-I don’t sing or play an instrument. I don’t have any ear training.

I was just an auditor at the training session, but even so, I was able to start picking up the difference between notes. I started to hear and understand notes consciously, for the first time.

Now in most cases I can identify a note right away.

I played the violin in music school, and am now a sound engineer. I love singing.

Before the training, I had only relative pitch and could pick out music by ear.

After the training, I realized that perfect pitch is a huge help. Now in most cases I can identify a note right away, without comparing it to other notes.

I liked the positive atmosphere, and the illustration of emotions with films and music.
Thank you!

Victoria Sharatova, age 23, Moscow, Russia

I acquired the ability to recognize individual notes.

I’ve played the guitar for almost three years, but I don’t sing. I had relative pitch developed just a bit, and could pick out music by ear. I didn’t have perfect pitch.

I acquired the ability to recognize individual notes, to differentiate between black and white notes.

I liked the motivated atmosphere and the possibilities it created. And, of course, it’s always fun to be around musicians!

I’m going to buy a recorder, and learn to play it. I liked it…

Alex Skryabikor, age 20, Irkutsk, Russia

At the training, I learned to hear and memorize each note.
I really liked it.

I took piano lessons for 6 years, learned to read notes, but didn’t really develop my musical ear. I was always told that I didn’t have a knack for solfeggio, and I got good grades only thanks to the mercy of the teacher! In college, I studied musical theater, and thankfully for me, they accepted everyone. There, three years of general studies as well as a year and a half of voice studies taught me something about notes and reproducing them, but always using relative pitch. I decided to do the training to learn another method of approaching notes, and it paid off!

At the training, I learned to hear and memorize each note. I can say that I’ve memorized the notes of the middle C octave.

To obtain great results it’s essential to do a lot of work by myself, and the training session really tells you how to go about doing this. In general, I really liked it. And the Earwig software is really a find for those who want to teach themselves to be able to hear and sing. Thanks very much :)

The training is well structured; it’s very simple and accessible. The results of the test showed that my musical ear is more developed than I expected.

Zhanna Burman, age 29, Moscow, Russia

I was able to feel the notes!

I’m not involved in music professionally, and I don’t have much of an ear for music. After the first lesson I realized that this isn’t simple. It really requires systematic study. After the second day of training I built up some confidence that I would be successful – I was able to feel the notes!
It’s great.
For me personally it was too short, I need 3-4 days of training, but generally everything was great.

Boris Mihailovich, age 52, Moscow, Russia

I’m able to hear myself better, and clearly hear the resonance when I’m singing in tune.

I don’t play any instruments, but I very much want to learn to sing. Before the training,
I wasn’t really able to hear myself (I couldn’t tell if I was on pitch or not). I had no idea where to start to recognize notes, to be in tune with the music.

Now I have an active tool for working with notes, a way to get to know them. I’m able to hear myself better, and clearly hear the resonance when I’m singing in tune.

I’m confident that this method is effective, and that I can reach my goals through it.

Sophia Kolesnikova, age 36, Moscow, Russia

The names of the notes are gradually becoming linked with their images and feelings.

I wasn’t very involved with music-sometimes I sang karaoke, and that’s it. At the training,
I began to develop my own image for each note, the names of the notes are gradually becoming linked with their images and feelings.
At the second day of training the results became more apparent, and I understood how to continue studying even after the training session was over. I love it when the image of a note comes to me immediately!

Alex, Moscow, Russia

It’s hard to believe what is happening.

I sing and play the piano (as an amateur). I’ve been writing arrangements of kid songs for about two years.

Before the training, I could hear the progression of notes in my head, but I had trouble translating it into notes. Now it’s easier to do this.

I liked that the results become apparent quickly, almost immediately. It’s hard to believe what happens: it’s easier to identify notes by perfect pitch, rather than comparing them to each other using relative pitch!

I’m continuing my ear training and vocal training.

I’ve started to listen to music with more awareness. If I hear a melody with chords in my head, it’s now possible to figure out which notes they are (before, this was impossible). I can simply play the notes that I hear in my mind on the keyboard, instead of focusing on function and harmony.

It’s amazing :))))

And now, at rehearsals, I hear when someone is going flat… :))))
